The grass was
once a moat.
The Tower tours
are led by the Beefeaters, who also live in the residential area
of the Tower.
The original
spikes of the gate hang over you as you enter the tower.
This memorial
marks the spot of the executions that took place within the Tower
walls. Only about six executions were carried out here, as the vast
majority were done in public. Most of the executions carried out
on this spot were of Queens of England, like Anne Bolyn.
Because of a
legend that England will fall if the ravens leave the Tower, six
ravens are required to be cared for on the grounds by royal decree.
Left, the rack.
Right, faces of the kings of England.
The crown jewels
are kept in one of the five towers of the complex and may not be
photographed.
