TONY POTTER
1960-2020

The year 2020 has meant irreplaceable loss to more people than I can count. The biggest one to me was my friend Tony Potter, who passed away on June 21st from a heart attack. I had known Tony for over 30 years, having met him when he cast me as Snug in his production of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Globe Playhouse. Over the decades that I knew Tony, I have never encountered anyone with such joyful optimism or a childlike love of life.

Our most memorable theatrical collaboration was USS Pinafore, a comedic mash-up of Star Trek and Gilbert & Sullivan for which Tony designed and constructed a remarkable set that was the highlight of the show. Only Tony had the creativity and imagination to be capable of taking a tiny stage in North Hollywood and turning it into the bridge of a Federation starship. Working with him on that production was an experience that gave me many joys and taught me countless lessons. I will always be grateful — as will so many others who had the pleasure to know him — that Tony touched my life in the way he did.

Goodnight, sweet prince. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

And finally...
