Anohni was the first publicly transgender performer ever to be nominated for an Oscar for best original song for “Manta Ray,” a collaboration with J. Ralph from documentary Racing Extinction. The singer declined the invitation to attend the ceremony when the producers of the Oscar telecast determined that she would not be performing the song from the program.

Elliot Page received a nomination in the Best Actress category for Juno in 2007 while he was still acting under the name Ellen Page, thirteen years before publicly announcing his transgender status.
