Three actors have received Oscar nominations for playing Henry VIII.

Charles Laughton won the 1932/33 Best Actor Oscar for playing the title role in The Private Life of Henry VIII.
Robert Shaw was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for playing Henry VIII in A Man for All Seasons (1966).
Richard Burton was nominated for Best Actor for playing Henry VIII in Anne of the Thousand Days (1969).

The role of Queen Elizabeth I has also yielded three nominations, but for only two actresses. Judi Dench won the Oscar for her eight-minute cameo as the monarch in Shakespeare in Love in 1998. Cate Blanchett received a Best Actress nomination the same year for her performance of the title role of Elizabeth, and was nominated again for its sequel Elizabeth: The Golden Age in 2007.
