This production
of Shakespeare's tragedy with Ian McKellen in the title role was
the reason for Jon's trip. As soon as the production was announced,
Jon ordered tickets and arranged the trip around it. The extravagance
was justified, as Trevor Nunn's production of the play was a masterpiece
and McKellen's performance was the greatest that Jon had ever seen
in the role, equally matched by Jonathan Hyde as Kent and particularly
Sylvestor McCoy in a definitive performance as the Fool.
