Here's the skinny
on the four hotels Jon stayed in on his trip.
The
Jubilee
A
perfectly nice, reasonably priced (£50 a night) bed and breakfast
located near Victoria Station. The service is nonexistant and the
breakfasts are uninspired (mainly cereal, juice and coffee), but
an excellent value for the money.
The
Thanet Hotel
Jonny
Pal Mimi Freedman raved about this bed and breakfast next to Russell
Square (a stone's throw from the British Museum). At £76 a
night it was a little more expensive than the Jubilee, but it was
in a better area with better service and food (the scrambled eggs
and smoked salmon were delicious). The only real drawbacks are having
to cart your luggage up the stairs without a lift and the fact that
the bathrooms are so tiny that they looked like they belonged in
a motor home.
Richard and George
of the Thanet staff. Richard always seemed to be witness to the
many times Jon left the hotel only to return minutes later because
he's forgotten something.
Best
Western
Grosvenor Hotel
The
Grosvenor Hotel in Stratford-Upon-Avon was by far the nicest place
Jon stayed, but at £85.50 a night it was also the most expensive.
It was quite worth it, as it was a five minute walk from the RSC
theatres and had the unexpected luxury of a bathtub to soak Jon's
aching feet.
Holiday
Inn
London-Heathrow Ariel
An
excellent place to end the trip because of its proximity to the
airport and because of a fantastic deal with Orbitz at only £40
for the night.
