In a desperate attempt to sway Los Angeles members to their side, AEA sent bulk e-mails with testimonials from actors stating how lame the Los Angeles 99-seat theatre plan was. One of those testimonials was written by Oscar-winner Sally Fields' press agent, saying how theatre in Los Angeles would never be taken seriously until actors were adequately compensated. I don't know how much Ms. Field was paid to appear in Beyond the Poseidon Adventure, but I don't think a bump in her paycheck would have made any difference to its reception.
